Vanilla Ice Was Right

In his popular rap song from the 1980s, “Ice Ice Baby”, Vanilla Ice starts with the lyrics “Stop, Collaborate and Listen.” He was clearly ahead of his time and speaking about IT Project Management. Ok, maybe not but these are three important considerations for PMs…

1. Stop -Take a pause at times to see the bigger picture of the project, risks and issues. Take a second the reflect on the priorities, people and milestones where the appropriate time should be spent

2. Collaborate – Working on projects means working with people and so collaboration is critical to success. This means working in teams and with people from other organizations and companies to achieve a common goal

3. Listen – As project managers, it is critical to listen to our team members to understand how work is progressing and where the risks are

Project Management Savant?

Project Management Savant?

So I thank you, Vanilla Ice, for your insights and wisdom. Will it ever stop? I don’t know…..

  1. How about a sequel post featuring the “Under Pressure” riff?
