Find Your Style

Every leader has a different style and approach which fits their personality. Some may use their charm, some use logic, some are good politicians and others may use fear. What is interesting is that many have similar results; so there really is no one “right” way to be a leader.

Therefore each of us should look to leaders that we admire and consider what characteristics of theirs we like about them. Then we should see how natural this is for us to use – for example, I use humor and logic to influence others but I am not good at being “the guy who yells.” For me to do it would be un-natural and would probably not work for me.

The styles that we each use as leaders should take aspects of others that fit with our personality. We then continue to refine and adjust as we learn more and understand ourselves and how our styles impact the team members around us.

The other thing I would note is that leadership style should vary based on the audience and situation. For example, on occasion I am aware enough when not to use humor. Well not really….
