Added a recommended books feature

A few people have asked me about recommendations to build PM skills, in both the fundamentals and consultative areas. I have therefore added a new tab to the blog with the list of these books which you can purchase directly from.

I included some really good ones on Lean Thinking, Emotional Intelligence, and consultative skills. Please let me know if there are other good ones.

  1. Kerry,
I have 3 recommendations for you to add to your list, and I’ll tell you my thoughts behind each. First, I would recommend that project managers need to understand what motivates people to work. For that reason, read Dan Pink’s book “Drive” and read the seminal work on motivation in the workplace, school and families called Punished by Rewards by Alfie Kohn.
The other book I think is key is The Goal by Eli Goldratt, which uses a manufacturing plant to represent the need to manage dependencies and identify root causes of problems in order to resolve issues you face in execution and delivery.
I really enjoyed each of these and would suggest you read them (if you haven’t already) as well as add them to your Amazon list.

    Thanks,
    Josh
